Automation was described in this session at TribalNet as “Doing less to get more done”. It is a way to enhance your workforce- not replace it – but it needs to be communicated properly to all levels of your organization.  That communication goes beyond a company wide memo, or even a direct letter to the department that will be most directly affected by the automation.  If it is not, James Beal, Director of Leadership with Kalispel Tribe, says employees will begin to write their own story and not understand the company’s goal.  “You have to share the why, the impact, and the roll out for what the automation will do for the entire tribe and organization,” he said.  James said he has talked to tribes who have done all the right things to bring automation to their organization – from research, to consults, to financing, but the improvement didn’t work.  Why?  Communication!  James’ top two things tribes should be thinking about after automation is in place are 1) Managing Change Reaction and 2) The Employee Voice.  During the session, James noted that less than 10% of those in attendance were considering the addition of bots to their workforce, but rather, the majority are looking at automation in the shape of software.
