Wendy Barnhart, Telehealth Lead Coordinator with Grass Valley Health Center speaking on Indian Health Centers & Electronic Consult – Improving Access to Specialty Care

Tribal health clinics in rural settings are using telehealth and electronic consults to bring increased access to specialty care to their tribal communities.  Chapa-De’s Grass Valley Health Center has used telehealth for many years, but more recently started using their technology to offer electronic consults, allowing their clinic to provide effective specialty care that is consulted on with a specialty provider and acted on by a tribal health PCP.  “This allows for a co-managing situation to care for our patients who need to be seen by a specialist.  It provides them with remote access to the increased care they need with little to no travel,” said Wendy Barnhart, Telehealth Lead Coordinator with Grass Valley Health Center.  Many tribes across the country are located in rural areas.  Providing patients with this level of care in 2-3 days instead of 3-5 months is a game changer for tribal health facilities.
